Privacy Policy
This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use The County Weekly.
Overview
The County Weekly is a network of hyper-local newsletters (starting with The DuPage Daily). We collect the minimum information needed to operate the site, run subscriptions, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
Information we collect
- Newsletter signup. When you subscribe, we collect your email address and the newsletter/county you’re subscribing to.
- Subscriber verification. We may set a signed cookie in your browser to remember that you’ve subscribed so we can unlock subscriber-only content on the subdomain.
- Contact messages. If you send us a message through our contact form, we collect the name, email, and message you submit so our team can review and respond.
- Technical data. Like most websites, our servers may receive information such as IP address, user agent, pages requested, and timestamps. We use this for security (rate limiting) and troubleshooting.
We do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
- Send newsletters and manage subscriptions (including unsubscribe requests).
- Verify subscription status to provide subscriber-only access on subdomains.
- Respond to messages you submit via the contact form.
- Operate, secure, and improve the site (abuse prevention, debugging, performance).
Third-party services
We rely on a small set of vendors to run The County Weekly. Depending on how you use the site, your data may be processed by:
- Beehiiv (newsletter subscription and delivery).
- Supabase (database and admin authentication).
- Sentry (error monitoring to improve reliability).
- Cloudflare (hosting, caching, and delivery).
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described above (for example, maintaining your newsletter subscription or keeping a record of messages you sent us). Retention may vary by data type.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using links in our emails.
- Cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings (note: blocking necessary cookies may break parts of the site).
- Access/deletion requests. You can contact us to request access to or deletion of personal information we hold, subject to applicable law.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to reduce risk and limit access to authorized systems and personnel.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page when changes are made.
